COM (CUSTOMERS OWN MATERIAL)

Customers Own Material General Information

Haworth is pleased to offer the option of materials other than those listed in the Haworth price lists for specification on our products. Please note the following COM procedures, requirements, policies, and warranties to help us accommodate your requests.

COM TESTING FOR MANUFACTURING FEASIBILITY:

To confirm approval of or request new approval for COM’s:

Contact the Haworth Inquiry Center (1.800.426.8562), or http://hub.Haworth.com, or www.haworth.com > surface collection > COM Library to find out if the COM you have selected has already been tested and approved for use on our product. The surface collection site also has information regarding our alliance program with Carnegie, Luna Textiles, and Maharam as well as our industry-leading Pre-approved COM fabric (and laminate) offering.

If Yes (the COM you are looking for is listed), an OE (Order Entry) code will be provided, which is to be included on all purchase orders for products using that COM. No additional testing is required. NOTE: Re-testing is not necessary if you change the direction of the material application from what was originally approved (ie changing from rightway to railroad for fabrics) however a new OE code is required.

If no information is available on the COM you’re looking for, please provide the following:

  • A completed COM form (found in this section of the surface collection website)
  • Appropriately sized sample(s) of the COM as indicated on the form

Note: Cost of COM sample(s) and testing fees if applicable are customer’s responsibility (see forms).

Please submit the COM form and testing sample(s) per the contact information on the form.

Upon completion of the COM testing, Haworth’s COM Department will notify the Haworth Dealer of the test results. If the COM has been approved, it will be assigned an OE code to be used in completing all applicable purchase orders.

HAWORTH TO PURCHASE COM’S FOR PRODUCTION:

Haworth will purchase, schedule, and receive approved COM’s directly from the suppliers for use on Haworth products. The benefits are:

  • Reduces dealer administrative costs
  • Materials are sent to the correct manufacturing plant(s)
  • No additional delays in manufacturing of product(s)
  • Improved lead times

For fabrics used on product manufactured in North America, Haworth will acknowledge your order with the cost of the fabric plus a 4% handling fee shown as a separate line item. For product manufactured in Europe, there will be a 6% handling fee.

COM YARDAGE REQUIREMENTS FOR BID PRICING:

Please reference the COM Yardage Matrix in the price/spec book pages to determine the amount of fabric required to manufacture the products as specified.

UL APPROVAL

For Haworth to retain its UL listing, we may only apply fabrics that have been approved by UL. This is normally obtained by the COM supplier in the form of a waiver. Please go to the UL website (www.ul.com) or check with the supplier to make sure the fabric being submitted is UL listed prior to sending to Haworth. If the fabric is not UL listed, contact your COM advisor on how to proceed as your testing will be suspended.

CAL133 TESTING

Haworth is pleased to provide CAL133 testing services for COM orders. Haworth requires that COM’s first be tested for manufacturing feasibility. For CAL133 testing, submit the CAL133 Test form.

COM PRICING

Please refer to individual COM forms for any applicable upcharges or administrative fees for using COM’s on product.

COM PRODUCT LEAD TIMES

Standard product lead times will apply to products specified with a COM from the time of scheduling.

C.O.M. Terms and Conditions

  • Purchase orders cannot be accepted or entered unless manufacturing feasibility testing is complete with positive results.
  • OE code is to be clearly indicated on the purchase order.
  • Haworth will order and receive all COM’s for production.
  • Quantity or product changes (types or sizes) using COM’s may incur charges. Please contact your Haworth Order Services Coordinator.
  • Customers will be billed for Haworth supplied COM’s, even if the order is canceled.
  • Haworth reserves the right to reject a COM if the quality of the COM is not satisfactory for the product. In such an event, Haworth Order Services will promptly notify customer with an explanation of the problem.
  • Wood finish samples have a shelf life of 12 months. We ask that samples older than 12 months be resubmitted to insure color accuracy. There is no charge for this request.

If Haworth agrees to use a COM, the following limited warranty applies:

  1. Haworth shall have no responsibility for the condition, quality, value, performance, physical properties, or any other aspect of the COM.
  2. Haworth shall have no liability for any damages, injuries, or losses to the customer or to any third party that shall be caused by any COM, and the customer shall hold Haworth harmless for all such liability.
  3. Haworth assumes no responsibility for the overall appearance, flammability, normal durability, colorfastness or any other quality of the COM after its application on a Haworth product beyond normal quality standards.
